EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato has reacted regarding the boycott that the justice institutions have done to the "Xhafaj" commission.
Gonzato appealed that the independence of justice institutions be respected while adding that the EU will continue to assist the "Xhafaj" commission to make possible the consolidation of the Justice Reform.
" I don't think they were against the commission. They judged that their contribution to the commission's work should be treated differently. I think that the media did not correctly interpret the manner and opinions of the representatives of the High Council of Prosecution, the Judiciary and SPAK.
What is clear is the fact that we must respect the independence of justice institutions. This means that their input will be needed, but the Justice Reform of 2016 will have to be consolidated.
This led us to help with our expertise for the commission in order to accelerate all efforts related to the prevention of corruption, good governance and the consolidation of the Justice Reform. Asked by journalists about the opposition's protests, the ambassador said that the opposition has different ways to denounce the lack of democracy and I don't think that burning chairs is the best way. , he said from Elbasan.
The EU Ambassador was in Elbasan where, together with the Minister of the Interior Ervin Hoxha and the Mayor Gledian Llatja, they visited the social project "My Artisan Tradition" which focuses on supporting women and girls in need and was built in one of the seized properties of criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Risena Xhaja, the Chief Administrator of the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets during this activity expressed that it was a pleasure for her that the first activity at the head of the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets was developed in an enterprise, part of to the TWIST program, funded by the European Commission, which focuses on supporting such social initiatives, through the reuse of confiscated properties.
" In fact, through such examples, we fulfill one of the main goals of the law on the administration of confiscated assets, which is the return to the community of illegally acquired assets.
"My Handicraft Tradition" is a social enterprise in the city of Elbasan, which focuses on supporting women and girls in need, while on the other hand preserving our tradition with handicraft products.
Such initiatives that empower communities, support women and girls in need or other categories in need, promote our long-standing values and traditions, should not only be supported, but also further expanded.
In this context, cooperation with local government institutions, as in this case with the Municipality of Elbasan, but also with businesses, civil society organizations, the media, is of special importance, also for the simple reason that the products of these women and girls , so these beautiful and special carpets that they produce, must find a market, so that such ventures are as successful as possible.
We are determined to continue on this path, even with the unsparing help and support of our partners, the European Commission, the OSCE, civil society actors, whom I take the opportunity to thank for their contribution over the years. making it possible for the seized assets to be used for the benefit of the communities and for the most just social causes.
I have asked the staff of the Agency to carry out an inventory as complete as possible of all seized and confiscated properties and assets, in order to have a digitized register with information on each property, which will further serve also in view of similar initiatives in the future, she said.
