Former deputy of the Democratic Party, at the same time and well-known historian, Uran Butka has stated in the show "Pas Mesnate" that currently PD has deviated from the path it started and is in a crisis.
He emphasized that in the beginning the democrats were people who wanted to contribute to changing the system, from a totalitarian communist system to a western democratic system. However, according to Butka, as things did not go as everyone expected.
" We joined this movement, not only as the sons of these intellectuals and patriots, we worked for Albania and as people who wanted to contribute to changing the system, from a totalitarian communist system to a Western democratic system. I was one of them and I tried in those years to do something, to leave a mark in politics, then in the field of culture and history. I can say that things did not go as we entered the beginnings of democracy. Not only me, but a good part of intellectuals and politicians who take the very important and very qualitative and very honorable first step. It is enough to mention the first parliament in 1992, which was one of the highest quality parliaments and played a very important role in opening the way to democracy. Then things started to change, the Democratic Party, unfortunately for its leaders, its main leaders, changed the path we started and instead of trying for democracy, for Albania, for the Albanian right, because Albania needed an Albanian right after a left that governed it arbitrarily, for 45, almost 50 years, needed a western conservative right and PD deviated from the path it started and is now in a crisis," he said .
