US President Donald Trump has publicly called for Iran to be included in the new Russia sanctions bill, signaling that Washington's punitive measures should not be limited to Moscow.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump addressed Republicans directly with a short but meaningful message:
"Republicans, include Iran in the Russia sanctions bill!" the US president wrote.
The bill in question was originally drafted with the aim of strengthening economic pressure on Russia. It envisages the imposition of mandatory sanctions on Moscow, as well as expanding the powers of the US administration to penalize countries that continue to buy Russian oil.
The White House had previously said the sanctions package could be expanded to include Iran or its allies, including Hezbollah. With his latest tweet, Trump appears to openly support this idea.
Tehran, on the other hand, continues to demand the lifting of international sanctions, while the Iranian economy remains under severe pressure. The economic crisis has prompted widespread protests in the country, which, according to international reports, were violently suppressed by the Iranian authorities.
In his post, Trump did not provide further details on the proposal, but his message was clear: "Republicans, include Iran in the Russia sanctions bill!"
This statement is expected to intensify the debate in Congress about expanding the sanctions package against Tehran.
