The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, spoke after the annual report presented by Altin Dumani before the KLP.
During a press conference from the Blue House, Berisha accused Dumani of seeking to change the Constitution in order to extend his mandate as head of the Special Prosecution Office.
According to Berisha, such an action is unacceptable and shows that Dumani is afraid of the consequences of his work as head of SPAK.
"Forget it! The Constitution does not change for his chair. If you have performed your duties in accordance with the law, you have no reason to be afraid of your job," Berisha declared.
He added that it is not permissible for a prosecutor to exercise control over the judge of a case and called for urgent changes to stop this practice.
"The constitution will change, but to remove the right for the prosecutor to control the judge. This does not happen anywhere in the world," Berisha said.
He criticized SPAK's performance, stressing that, contrary to expectations, there has been no serious punishment from Dumani against criminals or corrupt officials. He even accused him of bargaining.
"Where are your sentences? None! While the Serious Crimes Prosecution has given dozens of life sentences for dangerous criminals. You have none, because you bargain ," he added.
Berisha described Dumani as "obsessed" with staying in office and warned that if he did not work with integrity, he would be held accountable.
