Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the National Conference on Education and Vocational Training, said that there is a marked lack of qualified employees. According to him, this has also started to be felt by businesses, who have difficulty finding qualified human capital. Rama said that this has forced them to significantly increase their salaries.
He said that the tourism industry is facing a shortage of qualified employees.
"The need for qualified labor has made 2024 and has marked this decade as the decade of a war, which has started and the intensity of which is increasing throughout Europe. It is a struggle to cope with the consequences of Europe's dramatic demographic decline, which puts us and countries like us here in Europe in front of a double challenge, increasing the professional skills of our young people to respond to the needs of a labor market more and more demanding for qualified labor and on the other hand facing the ever stronger pressure of the rich and large countries of Europe to absorb this qualified labor force.
Today the conditions to have an open debate on vocational education and to create a common sense of appreciation of the necessity of supporting the professional qualification of young people are very favorable due to the fact that the enterprise has begun to feel the moisture and see with the eyes of daily the contradiction between ambition, need and opportunities to grow and on the other hand the alarming lack of human capacities.
This has begun to be reflected significantly in the increase in wages that is A, without which the whole alphabet is incomplete and in shaping that human capital is not the last as it has been treated for years, but it is the first. A fairer sharing of profit with the employees themselves is not a matter of generosity, but of necessity. In these conditions, there is an opportunity to create a dialogue with business, for the need for the contribution of companies in increasing the capacity of the state to train young people with trades and skills. Today we are facing a stubborn fact in tourism, which is a new industry in Albania, in the sense of creating an ecosystem which is rapidly increasing ambition, investment opportunities", said the prime minister.
Rama said that the market should no longer create vacancies that may remain empty due to a lack of skills in certain jobs. He added that there is a shortage of young people who can fill a place by mastering the skills.
"The problem is with human capital, this goes against the fact that we don't have a lack of people, but we have a lack of people's qualifications, we don't have a lack of young people who can get involved and have a safe path, but we have a lack of young people who can occupy a place by mastering the skills that place needs.

Today we are for a very stubborn fact in the tourism industry which is new in Albania in the sense of creating an ecosystem that is rapidly increasing the ambition, investment opportunities to respond to a dizzying demand that comes from the creation of Albania in eyes of the world as a destination to visit. We don't have a lack of people, but a lack of qualifications, a lack of young people who can occupy a place by mastering the skills" , he said.
