"Golden cage" for crime?/ Taulant Balla reveals the exact number of

Dubai is one of the countries that has very few extradition agreements and Albania is one of the countries with which there is none. On the other hand, as the journalist Eni Ferhati said in the show "Opinion" on TV Klan, in Dubai there are the main bosses of the world of crime who have meanwhile tried to kill each other. Does this make Dubai a golden cage for the underworld?

Interior Minister Taulant Balla says that three extradition agreements have been sent that are in process between the respective ministries of justice. He adds that during his visit to Dubai, he was open to stressing that every effort will be made to get the people involved in serious crimes, even using deportation.

Taulant Balla:  We carried out all three agreements because the extradition part is related to three agreements, one is for extradition, one is for serving the sentence and for issues of judicial jurisdiction. All three of these agreements are in the process of coming and going between the ministries of justice, the Ministry of Justice of Albania and the Ministry of Justice of the United Emirates. Politically, I can tell you and you have the official notification of the Ministry of Justice of the United Emirates that we have discussed this matter and we want to conclude it. Now, many of the colleagues of Mr. Koka and Mr. Ferhati can say that we agree, but even if you sign the agreement, they will not implement it. To tell you the truth, I had a very open conversation with the Minister of the Interior when I told him that look, when it comes to serious crimes, we will persevere in any way to get them. Here then there is another moment that we can use deportation instead of extradition that requires a longer judicial process.

Among other things, the Minister of the Interior was also asked about the exact number of persons with criminal records that Albania is looking for in Dubai.

Blendi Fevziu:  How many people do we have that are wanted in Dubai, with the information you have?

Taulant Balla:  I have not made an exact summary of a number, but we can say that there are dozens.

Blendi Fevziu:  Is there a risk that Dubai is a myth and some of these are in Europe because you said that so-and-so is in Dubai, then one was arrested in Spain, one in France, one here and one there?

Taulant Balla:  Many have asked me this question. I believe we agree that a wrong concept has been created on the part of people with a criminal background and who have used this in the sense that they do a criminal event and consider it as a hope to hide there. What I can say publicly today is that we will do everything so that this destination is not conceived as such.

Spartak Koka:  Only a request because it will be up to Dubai to accept your requests or not, the Minister of Interior and Justice may wish, but the government does not have the will.

Taulant Balla:  The will of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior is...

Spartak Koka:  Did they give you deadlines?

Taulant Balla:  I expect in the coming weeks or months that Minister bin Zayed will visit Albania to continue this and to find all the instruments that not only if we manage to close the agreement, but to find the possibilities that even without an agreement, the persons accused of serious crimes, we are able to bring them to justice.

Balla confirmed the exact number a few minutes later during the discussion in "Opinion", where it turns out that 20 people have been identified.

Taulant Balla:  We have identified 20 people who we have received confirmation that they are in Dubai, people we are looking for. The chances of that country having unidentified persons within their border are almost zero because they have a very good border entry system.
