The Council on Mandate and Immunity will meet on January 28, where SPAK's request for Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, will be reviewed.
But the Democrats seem to be unhappy with the date, claiming that the meeting should have been held sooner. Gazment Bardhi, head of the DP Parliamentary Group, accused Speaker Niko Peleshi of violating the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly by implementing the political orders of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"Following the criminal complaint for abuse of office by the DP Parliamentary Group, this afternoon Niko Peleshi announced that he will convene the Mandates Council on January 28, 2026, exactly 6 weeks after SPAK submitted the request.
This 6-week blockade is unprecedented and a high act of irresponsibility on the part of the socialist majority, which has decided to be the bunker for the corrupt in Edi Rama's government.
Obstruction of justice and the Assembly's blocking of the consideration of SPAK's request for 6 weeks has undermined the investigations and given the defendant Balluku the opportunity to attempt to destroy evidence/intimidate witnesses.
Edi Rama is no longer hiding in his will to protect government corruption. Acts like these, dictated by the terror that justice is finally approaching him, show how swift and painful his end will be.
"On behalf of the DP Parliamentary Group, I strongly condemn Niko Peleshi's violation of the Rules of Procedure and his implementation of Edi Rama's political order to drag out the case and obstruct justice," Bardhi said.
