The President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, stated that the Slovak Republic will be a strong ally and supporter of Albania in the process of integration into the European Union.
During a press conference in Tirana, where President Pellegrini was received by his Albanian counterpart, Bajram Begaj, he assessed Albania's progress on its path towards EU membership.
"Albania has made extraordinary progress, has implemented reforms and has improved many things. This commitment to Albania is a commitment to the Albanian people, and we believe that it is the right time to fulfill this promise," said Pellegrini.
The Slovak President stressed that Slovakia is ready to provide further support to Albania and help in fulfilling the conditions for EU membership.
"The Slovak Republic will be a strong ally and advocate of Albania in the accession process of Albania. Although as Prime Minister in 2018, I was very critical, commenting on the delays in the European Union enlargement process, we must say that Albania has made progress on its path towards the EU, we appreciate the great progress you have made, the reforms, improving things.
The commitment to Albania becoming an EU member one day was not made to the president or the prime minister, but to the people of Albania. It would be the right time to fulfill this promise, because the countries of the Western Balkans deserve to be worthy EU candidates. There are issues that need to be met before Albania can undergo reforms, but this is a standard.
Slovakia will never agree to a report by preferring some countries that do not meet the conditions and on the other hand some others that meet the conditions will have the opportunity to postpone them. We must not lose the support of the Albanian people for the European project. We must continue in this process based on merit, and Slovakia supports all chapters in 2025, and be helpful in this regard after all the conditions have been met by the Albanian side.
"Maybe it can become a member state in 2030, Slovakia is a partner for this, it is very supportive and we are prepared to provide any assistance with our experience to help Albania go through all the processes as well as possible," said the Slovak president.
