Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a joint conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, stated that during 2024 a significant decrease in the number of Albanians seeking to go to Great Britain has been observed.
However, Rama highlighted a serious problem: many Albanians already in Britain have entered the country using Kosovo documents, claiming to be victims of the war. This has created complicated situations, as they live with two identities, one in Albania and another in the United Kingdom.
According to Rama, although these citizens face legal and administrative challenges, a solution is possible, given that many of them are already integrated and live in dignity as British citizens.
"It is time to examine another problem we have in Britain with many Albanians who were settled years ago and integrated, but at the time of their arrival they used Kosovo passports or identities, with acceptance as war refugees. And they today live with two identities, one for the British state, one here in Albania and have ongoing problems that can be solved given that they have been fully integrated citizens for more than 20 years and are contributors to the economy and social life. There are 50 thousand Albanians with British passports who contribute to the British state and nearly 50 thousand others with Albanian passports as honest and regular contributors and it is unacceptable for us that Albanians continue to be stigmatized as if they are the problem of Great Britain. We have also spoken with the Prime Minister about trade exchanges. We have increased compared to before, about 27%, but the total amount of trade exchanges is less than the budget of the Crystal Palace team. So it is good to increase a little more", said Rama.
