The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will travel to Greece on Monday at the invitation of the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the informal dinner organized by the Greek head of state. Mitsotakis has invited all the prime ministers of the region, with the exception of Albania, where the invitation was sent at the presidential level.
What stood out was the fact that Mitsotakis had invited the president to dinner and not Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The Greek side has officially sent an invitation to President Bajram Begaj to represent Albania. But not even our president of the Republic will go to Athens.
The Greek dinner comes before the next meeting of the countries of the Western Balkans with the countries of the EU within the framework of the Berlin process, which will be held in October in Tirana.
But the Albania-Greece relationship seems to have entered the ice age and the reason for this is Fredi Bejleri, the mayor of Himara elected on May 14. His arrest and refusal to take his oath has caused Greeks to take their anger to Brussels. But if the Albanian side will not have a representative, something else will happen with the countries of the region, and more specifically between Kosovo and Serbia. The invitation has been forwarded to Albin Kurti and Aleksandër Vucic, where according to the Greek media they have confirmed their participation.
Also, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, the prime minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacheski, and the head of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Kristo, will arrive in Athens to participate in the dinner.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel responded positively to Mitsotakis' invitation.
