Democratic leader Sali Berisha, speaking about the formalization of tourism, has accused the government of favoring Pëllumb Gjoka and Luftar Hysa.
Berisha said that Gjoka's motel was turned into a 5-star hotel, while Luftar Hysa was given a casino permit. According to him, this severely damages the tourism industry.
"The formalization of tourism is perhaps one of the basic conditions. There are 4 times as many beds, there are apartments compared to the hotel industry, which in many aspects puts the hotel industry in a difficult and unequal competitive position."
We do not intend to ban Air BNB, but formalization is a necessary condition if we want to properly utilize this major potential that we have. The formalization of tourism is also a security issue. You host a tourist, but his registration should be mandatory. The one who comes to our country, we have a responsibility towards him. Absolutely, in the most favorable conditions, we will do everything to formalize tourism. You cannot see a country with these potentials being reduced by formalization.
The tourism industry is facing difficulties, they have no support. Some people like Pëllumb Gjoka have support, who get permits for hotels... they have motels, they advertise them as 5 stars, they also give casino licenses to the one with Sinaloa, Luftim Hys. With Sinaloa's income, he deeply damages the tourism industry, he does not have income from his work. This damages tourism. The narco-euro is a real toxic currency for the Albanian economy ," Berisha said.
