After publicly showing support for his cousin, Elton Rroshi, a candidate for MP under the banner of the Democratic Party of Albania-Alliance for a Greater Albania, former socialist mayor of Kavaja, Elvis Rroshi, has campaigned for him. Recently, Elvis Rroshi was also seen at an electoral meeting, where he is seen next to his cousin.
On April 6, the former socialist mayor posted on social media the campaign poster of his uncle's son, who is running as part of an open list in Tirana of the opposing party to the one that supported Elvis to take over the leadership of the municipality of Kavaja.
Berisha justified the selection of Elton Rroshi as a candidate for MP, saying that the cousin is not guilty of what the former local official, who was excluded from politics through the decriminalization law, did.
The irony is that years ago, Sali Berisha himself accused Elvis Rroshi of being the “head of the Kavaja gang” and linked him to underworld figures like Emiljano Shullazi. Today, this hostility seems to have turned into an alliance, with Berisha promoting the son of the former socialist mayor’s uncle into politics.
Meanwhile, former mayor Rroshi himself is under investigation by SPAK for concealing assets and failing to justify income, an issue that cast the shadow of decriminalization over his political career and led to his exclusion from the political scene.
Sali Berisha, on the other hand, has clarified that the choice of Elton Rroshi as a candidate is not related to his cousin's past, considering him an individual separate from the former socialist official's past.
"A cousin is not a sinner for a cousin. What is this candidate's name? Elton... With Elvis, being related by blood is another thing, but there is no connection, this is not a criterion for candidates. Even Edi Rama has two cousins, one of whom accuses us of property grabbing and the other he makes prefect to grab property", declared Berisha about his candidate.
