The Albanian and Italian governments are holding a joint meeting in Rome today, the first between the two governments, and marking the highest level of cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Edi Rama and his counterpart Giorgia Meloni have not spared kisses and hugs with each other.
The head of government describes this joint meeting as a historic day for our country in international relations, while announcing that 16 new cooperation agreements will be signed with Italy, which he considers "our precious western neighbor."
"Another historic day in Albania's international relations, the first joint meeting between the two governments, which takes place in Rome to pave the way for 16 new concrete cooperation agreements within the framework of the close strategic partnership with our precious western neighbor," Rama writes.
Present will be: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku; Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali; Justice Minister Besfort Lamallari; Interior Minister Albana Koçiu; Defense Minister Pirro Vengu; Health and Social Protection Minister Evis Sala; Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj; Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja; Environment Minister Sofjan Jaupaj; and Adea Pirdeni, Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption.
First, at 11:40, the two Prime Ministers Edi Rama and Giorgia Meloni will meet, to then continue with the joint meeting, which starts at 12:30. Around 14:00, the signing of agreements and memoranda in areas such as: defense and security, energy, migration, civil protection, health, environment, economic development and infrastructure is expected.
The ministries that will sign the agreements are Interior, Defense, Health, Foreign Affairs (a cybersecurity agreement), and Infrastructure and Energy (financing agreement for the northern electricity grid).
Italy has held other joint meetings with EU member states, but this is the first time it will sit at a joint table with a member state of the Union.
