Opposition MPs have sent an official request to the President of the Republic to return the law on gender equality to the Parliament for reconsideration. The request highlights all the arguments for the law's unconstitutionality.
The request emphasizes that the President of the Republic is facing a historic test: Will he defend the principles of the Constitution, reason and freedom, or will he surrender to the imposition of ideology? Will he stand on the foundation of law, or will he slide into ideological authoritarianism packaged as "tolerance"?
"For this reason, we ask you, at least once during the exercise of your duties as President of the Republic, to rise to the height of duty, to stop the division, deformation, denaturation, and to follow the advice of religious communities, to preserve the Albanian tradition that no rule in our society can be imposed in contradiction with the representatives of religious communities. For all of the above, To return for reconsideration to the Assembly the law "On Gender Equality", according to the competence recognized by the Constitution in its Article 85," the request states, among other things.
On November 6, the Assembly approved the much-debated draft law "On Gender Equality" with 77 votes in favor of the majority. 36 opposition MPs voted against, harshly criticizing the law, saying that its goal is to destroy the family.
