The Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Good Governance, Anti-Corruption and the Rule of Law, Fatmir Xhafaj, held a press conference on Thursday on the occasion of the conclusion of the 14-month mandate of this committee.
During his speech, he presented the balance of the work to date and emphasized the importance of the commission's role in the institutional reform processes, while emphasizing that the action plan was built on three main pillars: guaranteeing good governance, strengthening the fight against corruption, and consolidating the rule of law.
Xhafaj also made an indirect threat to SPAK at the conference. Asked about the extension of the mandate of the prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office, Xhafaj said that the magistrates in this structure missed their chance.
"What I think about this is more or less known. This issue should have been done as I said, for them to sit at the table and bring the arguments for and against. To date I have seen a request but not the arguments for and against. There should be a discussion.
It would be good if this discussion were held within the justice institutions, but they missed this chance. They did not establish this working group themselves, but when the issue of making it a component of the consolidation of the justice reform comes up, I am convinced that it will be one of the issues that will be addressed and there will be a decision. This is not the main problem that the justice system has," he said.
