While the divorce of the longest-running couple in politics, between Monika Kryemadhi and Ilir Meta, is official, the reasons that led to the dissolution of this marriage have not yet been revealed.
Freedom Party MP Monika Kryemadhi, invited to the 'Opinion' show on TV Klan, says that even she herself is not clear why Ilir Meta asked for a divorce. Kryemadhi hints that according to her, the reason for the divorce between her and Meta may have been the burning of the mandates of LSI MPs at that time, in 2019.
We recall that at that time, Kryemadhi led the SMI, as Ilir Meta was President of the Republic.
Regarding the burning of mandates, which apparently also affected her marriage, MP Kryemadhi also blames Lulzim Basha as the leader of the opposition at the time, who received guarantees of support from Germany after the extreme political act of burning mandates in a bloc.
Excerpts from the studio interview:
Monika Kryemadhi : As far as I heard, it was the burning of mandates. Ilir Meta was in Germany, I was the only one who would burn the mandate, while the rest of them also requested it. Let's not forget the guarantee that came from Mr. Basha that the German Chancellor would come out at that time, she would be the one who would support the opposition in burning the mandates to divide the country... because there were some procedures that, for the sake of truth, had occurred many flagrant legal violations by the majority at that time and the only way at that time that was reactive was also the burning of mandates to put Edi Rama in a position with his shoulders against the wall. Which in fact put Edi Rama the opposition with his shoulders against the wall.
Blendi Fevziu : From a political perspective, it's unfortunate that Mr. Basha told you something that you have to be super naive to "believe", that the German Chancellor comes out and welcomes the burning of mandates, while from a personal perspective, Mr. Basha is the cause of your divorce with Mr. Meta.
Monika Kryemadhi : These are the political conflicts that led to an impossibility of family coexistence.
Blendi Fevziu: Did Ilir Meta know anything or not?
Monika Kryemadhi : No, he only knew about my mandate. Mr. Basha at that time and not only Basha but also many members of the DP, MPs or former MPs who are today with Mr. Berisha or in the DP, were the main people who maintained contacts with the CDU at that time. I was in favor of entering the local elections, but the entire political environment said no. The CDU was the one that asked Ilir Meta at that time to change the date of the local elections. There was interference from outside to burn the mandates and boycott the elections. How this interference was, this remains to be seen, which for me requires an official investigation. This will come at a later time. In my view, Mr. Basha's behavior was a sellout.
