The Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party disclosed the meetings with the MEPs in the European Parliament. On behalf of the group, Albana Vokshi, in a statement from Strasbourg, said that they were informed by internationals about the reality in Albania.
She focused on the issues of the moment, such as the arrest of Sali Berisha, the imprisonment of Ervin Salianji and recently the arrest of Ilir Meta.
Also, Albana Vokshi said that they will use all legal means to force the government to find a solution for free and fair elections.
" We have met without distinction all the political groups in the EP and have informed them about the difficult situation of democracy in Albania, beyond that facade of propaganda.
We stopped at the violation of the Constitution, that is, the constitutional order has practically fallen in Albania, the failure to organize free and fair elections since the government headed by Rama came to power, for rampant corruption, as well as the use of political justice to attack and persecuted the opposition.
They stopped at the unprecedented attack with the sole purpose of destroying the opposition before the parliamentary elections.
We informed all our friends about the opposition leadership of all opposition parties who are either under house arrest, or under prison arrest or threatened with various court cases.
We mentioned and informed about the political arrest of Sali Berisha and about our colleague Ervin Salianji, who is in prison because he dared to denounce the former Minister of the Interior. We also informed about the mid-day kidnapping of former president Ilir Meta.
We will use all the legal tools in the EP and KiE to raise all the concerns as well as to find different tools to force the government to provide legal solutions for free and fair elections ", said Vokshi.
