The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, continues today with the last day of her visit to Tirana.
Von der Leyen will hold a meeting with President Bajram Begaj around 10:00 in the Presidency.
Afterwards, the President of the European Commission will leave to continue the tour in the other 5 countries of the Western Balkans.
The day before, Von der Leyen was received by Prime Minister Edi Rama. A week after Albania sat down in front of the EU delegation and opened negotiations for the first group chapters with Albania, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said from Tirana that within 2025 all group chapters can be opened.
She avoided a comment on the arrest of Ilir Meta, but praised the excellent work of the reforms, especially in justice.
Von der Leyen's visit is part of the tour of the Western Balkans with a focus on the EU package for growth and reforms in the region, which includes financial assistance of 6 billion euros for these countries. This Wednesday, the European Commission approved the growth plan and the payments of the 6 billion euro package for Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia are expected to start soon.
