As Edi Rama takes to the stage of the celebration, protests continue outside, while calls for reflection increase within the left. Arta Dade speaks about the "occupation" of the SP, Ditmir Bushati calls for a separation between power and the state, Elisa Spiropali raises questions about the limits of power, Erion Braçe continues his criticism, while Pandeli Majko recalls that the history of the socialists has always been a history of survival...

The Socialist Party turns 35 today. At 5:00 PM, at an event organized by the party's leaders, Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to speak, on a day that theoretically should have been a celebration for the political force that has governed the country for more than a decade. But rarely has an anniversary found the Socialist Party so far from the atmosphere of triumph and so close to a climate of distrust, anger and open conflict with a part of society.

While the stage is being prepared for the celebratory speeches, outside it, the protests that have filled the streets of Tirana and other cities for days continue. An unusual revolt, born of citizens and not from political parties, which has turned dissatisfaction with the government and the way public assets are being administered into the center of the debate. It is in this climate that the 35th anniversary of the Socialists is becoming more of a moment of accountability than a celebration.

It is not just the protesters who are demanding reflection. Within the socialist family itself, voices are being heard that would have been unimaginable until recently. Historical figures and important former leaders of the Socialist Party have come out openly against the course followed by Edi Rama, raising concerns about the party's departure from the ideals on which it was built.

Former minister and former MP Arta Dade has chosen to side with the protesters, declaring that "real socialists" are not in the activities organized by the party, but in the square, where, according to her, dignity and social justice are being demanded. In a harsh reaction, she speaks of an SP alienated by corruption, clientelism and the arrogance of power, accusing Rama of having turned the party into a structure that no longer resembles the organization that was born as a symbol of political change in the early 1990s.

Even more direct was former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati. In a lengthy political analysis, he described the protests as "protests of dignity," arguing that they have exposed the gap between the government and the citizens. According to Bushati, the anger that has erupted in the streets is the result of a model that has concentrated power, weakened internal debate, and distanced the Socialist Party from the commitments with which it came to government in 2013. His message was clear: the Socialist Party must emerge from denial and reflect before it loses its political raison d'être.

Along the same lines, Elisa Spiropali has also chosen an unusual language for one of the most important figures of the majority. Comparing today's protests to symbolic events in the history of transition, she spoke of the need for a "new deal for Albania", where the state is bigger than the government and the institutions are stronger than the individuals who run them. At the core of her message was the demand for more control over power, more political competition, more accountability and more space for dissent.

While Pandeli Majko, one of the longest-standing figures of the Albanian left, chose symbolism. On the day of his 35th anniversary, he brought the verses of Dritëro Agolli and recalled that the history of the socialists has always been a story of survival and change. But even among his congratulations, the weight of the past and the message that no political force can move forward without facing its own history were read.

Thus, on the day when the Socialist Party celebrates 35 years of life, Edi Rama does not find himself at the peak of a political triumph, but at the center of a storm that comes simultaneously from the street and from within his political house. On one side are the protesters demanding change, on the other side the socialists demanding a return to principles. And between them stands the prime minister, facing the greatest political challenge of recent years: to convince that the 35-year-old Socialist Party continues to be the same force that once promised to change Albania. /Pamphlet
