There is no union of the Democratic Party in Kukës. Although the partial elections of September 24 were seen as a good opportunity for DP to avoid the mistake of May 14 and come out unified, Berisha and Basha have kicked the union.
Today, Berisha gathered the Presidency of his group and in the end decided to go with Meta in these elections and have rivals from the official SP and DP candidates.
The presidency has decided that the primary process will take place this Sunday, where the official candidate will emerge.
" The leadership of the Democratic Party in its meeting for the organization of the election process for the Primary for the partial elections of September 24, 2023 in the Municipality of Kukës, decided: 1. The primaries will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023; 2. The candidates of the primaries will be according to the list approved by the Presidency in the annex attached to this decision:
Based on the decree of August 11, 2023 of the President for the announcement of partial elections for Kukes Municipality, on August 16, the CEC has determined the procedural deadlines that must be followed by political parties for the registration of elections. Based on these deadlines and in accordance with the DPSH statute and decision no. 38 of 01.10.2022 of the National Council for Primaries, we are obliged to organize the primaries as soon as possible ", announces Foltorja.
According to her, the Kukës branch has brought 10 proposals which have been contacted by the Organizational Secretariat and invited to complete the candidacy documentation for the Primaries. Until today, in the deadline for the acceptance of the documentation, 6 candidates have filled out the forms, of which 5 have been proposed by the branch and one is a self-proposal.
With this move, it seems that Berisha will once again take refuge in Meta, ignoring May 14. Berisha himself does not appear anywhere and must go to the elections under the banner of a coalition or party. According to the information, it is expected that he will once again enter the logo of Ilir Meta, as happened in the previous elections.
On the other hand, Basha did not delay and chose the candidate with whom he will compete in Kukës. According to the information, the official DP will send the name of Arif Rexhmati to the CEC.
It is interesting that his name has been proposed to be part of the Primaries of Berisha. But on social networks, Rexhmati has rejected this process, stating that he is a candidate of the official DP.
" Although I support the principle of competition, I judge, like many of the Democrats, that entering into a primaries process when there is only one month left from the elections and when the internal situation of the Democrats continues to suffer the consequences of conflict and blame, with all the good intentions by itself, it does not serve the consolidation of the structures and their readiness for the campaign. "Hatr the remnants after the vote create division and not unity of the membership, while the credibility of the process not only does not guarantee unity, but can be a source of conflict during and after the process, with irreparable damage to the outcome of the election," he writes .
So it seems that the crisis in DP has no intention of ending, although some MPs asked for unification.
