Time showed that Sali Berisha returned to the Democratic Party only for personal interests and to use it for his own purposes and not those of the electorate and citizens.
This is what Democratic MP Ferdinand Xhaferraj says after the recent political situation with the primaries and closed lists of the Democratic Party, where the involvement of Berisha loyalists is striking.
Xhaferraj, invited today to Report TV's 'Studio Live', stated that during these three years Berisha has had no intention of reorganizing the party and winning the elections, as the attack on Lulzim Basha came only after he expelled him from the party and not because of the former chairman's electoral losses.
Xhaferraj calls it a "chain of mistakes by the DP," with the lists and primaries being their last link.
"A chain of mistakes by the DP. The primaries and the lists were the last links of the mistakes. They were not accidental but started 3 years ago, it does not start here but three years ago, when Berisha returned and had big dilemmas, whether to return to strengthen the DP or to use it for the interests of the mayor.
With arguments and facts it turns out that the decision-making was to use the party for the interests of the mayor and the facts lead to this. I do not regret that the DP had to unite, so that we could be an opposition factor. I was even the only one who had the metaphor that 'without Berisha it cannot be done, but even with Berisha the first one cannot be done'. We needed a party beyond Berisha as mayor, to activate the international factor, as well as to have the justice reform as an electoral bomb", he said.
As for the lists, he says that the primaries were invalidated and “loyalists of the president” were elected. Xhaferaj emphasizes that Berisha had a personal agenda and self-interest.
"It was an agenda that served the mayor's agenda, they were elected loyal to the mayor. It also led us to conflict with SPAK, because that's what the mayor wanted, unfortunately, as well as with the primaries that were canceled."
"I would like to say that the DP is currently the least bad. Because the DP leadership is using it for personal interests and not to win elections. I say this with regret," the MP states about the political dynamics of the party in these three years.
