Former socialist minister Valentina Leskaj, in an interview for "Terminal" on A2 CNN, gave a strong message to the majority and the opposition, asking for cooperation within the framework of reforms for Albania's integration into the EU.
According to Leskaj, any reform or initiative that passes through Parliament must receive the votes of both parties as the country is at a historic moment and opposition-majority cooperation shows stability in the eyes of the EU.
" I would like all the reforms that have been announced and above all we must be very careful that our Parliament meets all the criteria of a functional democratic Parliament. I know that it is not an easy thing, because here of course it takes two to tango. And both parties must deeply understand this. Of course, the stronger the majority is, the more responsibility it has. And what the majority will do and I believe and wish it would do, is to have as much involvement as possible because this is done for the interests of the country, not simply integration because we will go to the EU. Every reform that is made in Parliament, that includes as many parties as possible is more sustainable. Because the decisions that are made today are for a very important historical moment. Therefore, the decisions that are made today are very long-term, they have to do with decades, so they must be very sustainable ", said Leskaj.
Leskaj made a strong appeal to the country's opposition, asking them to understand the weight of the responsibility that Albanians have entrusted to them by vote, as Parliament, according to her, is not a platform where you enter, insult and curse, and leave.
" The second is that the opposition must understand the responsibilities it has. The opposition is a responsibility. Sometimes the opposition is even more responsible. I have been in the opposition myself and I have been the head of the Parliamentary Group. And I have seen this as a responsibility, not like in a country where when you go to Parliament you are comfortable because you can criticize and then you can leave. And the issue of integration is, it has a very broad scope. Not just the government in Europe. It has the main responsibility to carry out reforms, but this is a responsibility of the whole society, even of ordinary citizens ," Leskaj underlined.
