Prime Minister Edi Rama justified the rush to dismiss Erion Veliaj by claiming that it is necessary to elect a new mayor at the head of the Municipality of Tirana.
In his speech, during the meeting with socialist ministers and MPs, Rama listed a number of tasks that need attention, such as kindergartens, nurseries, public transportation, etc.
An example that the Municipality of Tirana needs leadership is the drop to the lowest historical level of public procurement.
“ The demand for public nurseries and kindergartens is growing. The municipality must definitely lead this process by preparing the necessary ground for the construction of new kindergartens and schools. Citizens also want solutions for public transportation. The municipality, under the leadership of the acting mayor and the recently elected group of new deputy mayors, has done everything it could, but the need to legitimize the leadership of the municipality is more urgent every day. It is enough to see the dramatic situation with public procurements that are at a historic low to understand that there is a need for people to be motivated. It is enough to see the dramatic decline in the level of investments.
This, coupled with the necessity for a process of source catharsis in the sense of self-purification of the Municipality of Tirana, as we did in other municipalities, requires the legitimization of the new leadership so that we no longer have situations where public spaces are occupied by employees or leaders of local units, and which we will address in the new package that we will pass to the government, which also brings severe criminal punishment ," emphasized Prime Minister Edi Rama.
