Tomorrow, two ships with migrants are expected to arrive at the Port of Shëngjin, the first at 15:00 with 15 migrants and the second around 19:00 with 25 migrants as part of the Albania-Italy agreement. They will be temporarily accommodated in the reception center in Gjadra. This flow is expected to increase, but it is confirmed that in the future, airlines will be operated to bring migrants.
This process aims at more organized management of immigration and facilitation of repatriation procedures for immigrants without regular documentation. The maximum period of stay at the Gjadri center will be 18 months.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has emphasized that new policies have significantly reduced the flow of immigrants to Italy and that the centers in Albania are an effective management model.
After a pause in the functioning of the reception centers in Shëngjin and Gjadra, the center managers have re-contacted the employees who were part of the first collaboration to resume work in these camps starting on Thursday.
The maximum period of stay in these centers is 18 months, a period during which all legal procedures for their settlement or repatriation to their countries of origin will be carried out.
