Member of the leadership of the Democratic Party, Jonila Godole speaking about the deep crisis of the opposition. stated that DP was taken "hostage" by two people, referring to Berisha and Basha.
According to her, both of them have seen the party as property and now that they have separated, each one has taken their piece according to the weight and support they have, damaging the opposition.
In an interview for "The Unexposed", she added that she has proposed a platform to unite the Democratic Party so that it can compete as a winning alternative in the upcoming elections, but her platform and the proposals of the deputies were rejected by a minority in the party, which has decided to rush towards the elections to appoint Lulzim Basha as chairman.
Excerpts from the studio conversation:
Jonila Godole : I proposed a platform so that we could walk more calmly.
I was waiting, after the elections were over, for the presidency to meet, I made a proposal, with some points that would be the steps on how the PD should be reformed and be ready for 2025 as a winning force. My entire focus and contribution has been how this party can be victorious and not how to keep the opposition strong.
Proposal one, reflection and analysis of what has happened, with independent experts, with leadership and a wide working group. We would also define membership and figure out how to absorb new membership. Then the race for leadership was opened with professionals in their fields, who have raised their careers without the help of the party and the president.
All this would be closed by the end of the year. So the reflection and then the race, after the membership is certified. In an Assembly, candidates reveal their platforms.
In the first quarter of 2024, the party would work for a modern program, in the face of a corrupt government. It was also supported by the deputies. 17 MPs relied on this platform to make their proposals. But instead of debate, it was rushed and it was decided to go to the elections on July 29, a very rushed process.
Ylli Rakipi : What you thought turned out to be a dream. How is it possible for a very small group to take hostage the party that has governed Albania for half the time?
Jonila Godole : I see it as a big house with two owners, who are now separated. Now we have the big ode, which one took and a small guest house the other took. DP and the opposition is divided into two people, who hold the opposition hostage.
