The appointment of 12 political leaders in the Democratic Party has ignited the debate within the ranks of the Democrats regarding the primaries process. All candidates for deputies in the parliamentary elections of 2025 will be subject to the vote of the membership, but the chairman of the parliamentary group Gazment Bardhi says that this process must be careful, as it can bring instability to the party.
"There is a risk of creating further instability in the DP, so it should be a careful process, as it should take into consideration the need that the DP has for new flows outside the party structure. In principle, the fact that the vote of the party member is decided is a very positive development, but care must be taken that this democratization process within the party does not turn into anarchy, or a process that destabilizes the party, because at this moment we need stability and the union of every factor and member of the party in every branch, as we also need an openness that is not always ensured through an internal process within the party".
Parallel to the elections within it, the PD focuses on electoral reform and seeks to return to the dialogue table in order to have a comprehensive reform. Bardhi says that the majority's invitation for cooperation is welcome if it will accept the fulfillment of the recommendations of the OSCE-ODIHR.
"I have had no contact with Peleš. Never and at no time has the DP group refused to discuss issues that are of public interest and for a meaningful electoral reform, as requested by the OSCE/ODIHR, we have been and remain ready to do our duty in cooperation with the majority because changes to the Code require a qualified majority."
The majority has also asked for cooperation with the Anticorruption Commission, but the democrats continue to reject it.
"For us, if Rama had the will for the rule of law, there is no need for a special commission, it is enough for the government to fulfill its obligations. The fact that it has turned into a crime state, where we discover corrupt affairs with millions of euros in damages, show that the special commission is propaganda for the next elections".
The start of the autumn session finds the opposition with a new strategy of its political action in the parliament. But the attitude will also depend on the reaction of the majority, says Bardhi.
"Our goal has never been to block the work of the parliament, but if the majority continues to persistently reject the possibility of a comprehensive and concrete and complete electoral reform, it is the duty of the opposition to react with any form and means to was imposed on this need, which is not simply the opposition's, but Albania's need."
In addition to the battle in the Parliament, Bardhi says that autumn finds the opposition in the squares with the citizens, with the aim of removing Prime Minister Rama and creating a technical government./ TV Klan
