A protest held in Tirana, called by representatives of the Democratic Party, has been accompanied by incidents and clashes, leading to the reaction of law enforcement authorities.

According to preliminary sources, the organizer of the rally, DP MP Klevis Balliu, has been placed under investigation regarding his role in organizing and conducting the protest.

Klevis Balliu, according to the police, is accused of the criminal offense of "Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations."

Police say that 25 unexploded Molotov cocktails, 27 cell phones, and other illegal items were seized from yesterday's protest.

Meanwhile, a total of 52 people have been escorted after the opposition protest on Friday, February 20. Journalist Besar Bajraktaraj has learned that 17 of them have been arrested, while 35 others have been processed at large.

We recall that this DP rally was also marked by incidents. Protesters threw Molotov cocktails while the police responded with water cannons and tear gas.

The fourth national protest lasted a little over 3 hours. Unlike previous times, even the leader of the Democrat Party, Sali Berisha, joined the crowd, wearing a gas mask and protective glasses.

He condemned "the attack on the blue headquarters and the actions of the Police."

In a statement distributed to the media, the DP press office denounces the police forces, who, according to the DP, attacked the opposition headquarters after the peaceful protest, causing chaos, injuries and wounds.

"Large amounts of tear gas were thrown into the courtyard, premises and even the offices of the leaders of the Democratic Party, the main opposition force, a few minutes after the national protest of February 20, organized in collaboration with a group of independent intellectuals, under the slogan of the Civic Dialogue Forum, in commemoration of the toppling of the statue of dictator Enver Hoxha and the revolt over the corruption scandals of the Rama government. Police forces attacked the headquarters of the main opposition force after a peaceful protest, one of several in the last two months, bringing chaos, injuries and wounds."

According to the DP, tear gas has affected and disrupted the prayers of Muslim believers who are on the third day of the month of Ramadan, while the injury of protesters, according to it, was a premeditated act by the police.

"The Democratic Party holds directly responsible the director of the Police connected to criminal gangs, the Minister of Interior and Prime Minister Rama, whose order is behind this unprecedented police and political violence," the statement concludes.
