Protests in Albania have entered their 10th day, as thousands of citizens in Tirana and the country's main cities demand the resignation of Edi Rama as Prime Minister of the country. "Resign" is a non-negotiable demand being directed at Edi Rama, while the latter has chosen to interpret the protests not against him, but against President Donald Trump, since his son-in-law Jared Kushner is involved in projects for the construction of tourist resorts in Zvërnec and the island of Sazan.
Prime Minister Edi Rama rushed to link the protests to the name of the American President and his family on the first day, even serving as a catalyst to mobilize all of Donald Trump's opponents from Europe to the US.
The line that Rama took as a way to reduce the pressure, which has actually been increasing, is the same as what was followed in the following days by all those who are considered opponents of President Trump in almost the entire world. So Rama has to some extent injected into all the networks that the dissatisfaction that fills the squares has nothing to do with him or his government, but with Donald Trump and his family.
Trump's critics in Europe have been quick to echo the protests by linking them to dissatisfaction with Jared Kushner's name, even though the protesters list dozens of reasons that forced young people, but also the middle class, to take to the streets and protest. And in fact, the vast majority of protesters are not concerned with the investment, but with the procedures that the Government has followed and the lack of transparency that accompanies Edi Rama's decision-making on every important issue.
The latest to react with a post on social media, in line with Edi Rama and all critics of Donald Trump, is US Senator Bernie Sanders. Considered a key figure among the American Democrats, while representing the extreme left line within this party, Sanders linked the protests to Jared Kushner's project in Sazan.
US Senator Bernie Sanders published a reaction on social media.
" In tiny Albania, over a hundred thousand people have taken to the streets against an environmentally disastrous luxury resort planned by Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his billionaire partners from Qatar. This is the face of global oligarchy, and the people are saying 'No,'" Sanders wrote.

The stance expressed by the American senator was followed by reactions online, among which the attention of the DP politician, Edith Harxhi, is noteworthy.
Former Deputy Foreign Minister and one of the figures of the Albanian opposition, Harxhi, in her reaction, states that Albanian citizens have risen up against what she described as a "narco-state", considering the Rama government as the main cause of the protests.
"This is not true senator! Albanians did not rise up against Donald Trump and his son-in-law. Albanians rose up against a corrupt government funded by the left in the United States. They rose up against the narco-state that Edi Rama, their prime minister, has built over the years," Harxhi writes.

Meanwhile, in another reaction, one of the activists who identifies himself as Dr. Palushi, also opposed Sanders' interpretation, arguing that the protests in Albania are not primarily about Kushner's project, but rather dissatisfaction with the government of Edi Rama. In his reaction, he accused the prime minister of corruption and links to organized crime, claiming that the project on the island of Zvërnec is being used for political interests.

The debate comes at a time when strategic investment projects on the Albanian coast have sparked intense political and environmental debates in the country. Supporters of the projects argue that they will bring investment and economic development, while opponents express concerns about the environmental impact, transparency of procedures and management of public assets. / Pamphlet /
