Democratic MP Saimir Korreshi has provided details from the Ethics Committee meeting, where the 15-day suspension from parliamentary work of the head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, was decided.
The decision came as a result of clashes between Bardhi and Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi in the last plenary session.
"This is a blow to one of the main figures of the DP, such as the chairman of the parliamentary group, in order to damage the role of the opposition in the Assembly as much as possible," said Democratic legislator Saimir Korreshi, among others.
This Monday, the Ethics Committee in the Assembly reviewed the request of the Socialist Party deputies to exclude Democratic Party deputy Gazment Bardhi from plenary sessions for 30 days. The committee decided on a 15-day exclusion.
We recall that it all started after Thursday's parliamentary session, where there was a clash between Gazment Bardhi and Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi, while the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, Gazmend Gajda, was reporting.
Bardhi demanded that every MP take the right to speak and ask questions to the commissioner, while Peleshi stated that it was enough for everyone to send questions in writing. The Democrat MP considered this one-sidedness, and considered Peleshi “incompetent”. After Bardhi’s words, Peleshi took a disciplinary measure, initially forbidding him to speak and then, since the debates continued, he decided to exclude him from the session of the day.
After this debate, 14 MPs signed a petition to demand Bardhi's expulsion for 30 days. This is because, according to them, the democrat had repeatedly violated the Assembly's rules of procedure, insulting the Speaker and creating chaos in the hall with his interventions and high-pitched voices.
