The elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, is among the winners from the list of MEP candidates of the "New Democracy" Party of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
At the end of Sunday's voting in Greece for the European Parliament, he was ranked fourth, among the 7 names that will represent the Greek Prime Minister's party. This is the second time that Mr. Beleri wins elections, while under arrest.
Journalist Panajot Barka said in an interview for Euronews Albania that the entire machinery of New Democracy was committed to the victory of Beler, mythologizing the elected mayor of Himara as a defender of minority rights.
" One of the reasons why Beler was elected is that he was spoken about on behalf of the Greek minority and the second is as a myth of Beler to vote on behalf of the minority to defeat Rama, this gave him the vote. The Greek people voted for it, because we don't know how much the minority voted for it. We have a great mobilization of the entire machinery of the new democracy to win Beleri, they were looking for a heroic way out of the impasse where it was. If you see, they did not support Piro Dhima, a very well-known character ", said Barka.
