He used to consider him a friend and often visited Turkey, but it seems that now Ilir Meta considers Erdogan an enemy.
The Turkish president even once upon a time made a "reconciler of blood" between him and Edi Rama. But "bread was broken" during Erdogan's visit in 2022, where he bypassed the Presidency.
Meta was in charge of the state at that time. It was hinted that it was Rama who advised him not to meet Meta. However, since that visit, Meta has wanted to flatter Erdogan, as he supports the Turkish opposition. Today he held a meeting with the leader of the Turkish opposition, Ozgur Ozel.
Ozel is the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), the main opposition force founded by Ataturk. After the meeting held between them, Meta said that he congratulated Ozel not only for his election at the head of this historic party but also for the impressive victory of the opposition in the last local elections.
He added that both shared the common appreciation that strong relations of friendship between countries and peoples require a common and unstoppable commitment based on the best traditional, democratic and European values.
