"Why are you laughing?", Babloku catches up with the student/ EU
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed optimism regarding Albania's EU membership process, despite the not-at-all positive signals in recent weeks from Brussels and Berlin, which link this process to the fulfillment of all conditions and criteria.

Despite a proposal put forward by Edi Rama and Aleksandar Vučić, the Prime Minister of Albania and the President of Serbia, for rapid membership without the right of veto, the European Commission officially reacted by stating that there can be no acceleration of the process and no bypassing of steps and criteria.

But during a conversation with students about EU membership, Rama said that Albania is smiling on luck like never before. He even said that all the stars have now aligned to realize the centuries-old dream of Albanians.

" Never before has Albania been so fortunate as it is today. When I say today, in these last few years. Never before has Albania been so fortunate in terms of the possible future of people being free, equal before the law, and having at their disposal not just a 28,000 square kilometer country, but an entire continent as their homeland."

This is not the path to heaven, but the safe path to a reality where for the first time in their history, Albanians will be safer and protected from any historical circumstance to their detriment.

"Fate is smiling on us because all the stars have come together and lined up to support this centuries-old dream of Albanians who have seen from the West, but whose view has always been closed. On the one hand, we have done a great job to change the position of Albania, which until yesterday was despised, and all Albanians who are abroad or who went abroad are witnesses to this, and it is enough to look at the face of the policeman at the border ," said Rama.

According to him, Albania's integration into the EU brings equal opportunities for their education, starting from payments, services or the labor market, just like European students.

" You don't have the same conditions as European students and even though you may be very talented, if you enroll in school, you pay much more than European students because you are a foreigner."

With EU membership, this changes completely. You are a local here in Tirana, in a lecture hall in Lisbon or Warsaw, in a university in one of the cities of Albania or in any of the cities of Europe. You do not pay more, you do not have any more difficulties in accessing services and you are not a foreigner when it comes to the labor market and you can choose a job not simply within the borders of Tirana, Albania or a city where you may know someone, but you can look for a job in any city in Europe.

"No one looks at you and tells you where you are from, that this is the EU. This is an effort that has meaning and a direct impact for each of you. It is not about a formal overcoming, but about a fundamental change in the position and relations between the country and the Albanian people and other European peoples ," said Rama.

And as is his custom during every meeting, the Prime Minister singles out someone from the audience to make jokes and humor, so too did one of them during the meeting with the students. During Rama's speech, one of the students was laughing, which Rama apparently took advantage of to repeat the same scenario, with jokes.

The Prime Minister asked the student why he was laughing, and he replied “about the negotiations that will be opened.” But Rama told him that “they are all open,” and the student replied “then to close them.”

Edi Rama:  Why are you laughing?

Student: I was listening.

Edi Rama:  You were laughing because you were listening, I suspect, I saw you.

Student: I wasn't laughing.

Edi Rama:  What were you doing? You were laughing to yourself.

Student: I'm happy about the negotiations that will open.

Edi Rama:  The negotiations are open, you didn't think so! They are all open!

Student: So they're going to close!

Edi Rama: What opens, opens to be closed, not to remain open! /Pamphlet/
