New tensions have emerged in the Democratic Party, after a group of more than 100 members from the Durrës branch landed at the blue headquarters in Tirana, demanding a confrontation with the leadership after a wave of expulsions. Although the meeting did not take place, the behind-the-scenes action highlights a deep conflict within the party.
In an interview for the show 'TëPashoq' on the 'Pamflet' YouTube channel, former MP Ervin Salianji stated that the expelled Democrats are protesting because, according to them, the expulsions are not based on facts, but stem from the current leadership's "fear of competition."
According to Salianj, the timing of the exclusions was “banal,” as the decision was made on the very day a working meeting was being held with the leaders of the Durrës branch. He stressed that this action was a clear message to silence critical voices.
Salianji emphasized that the current leadership of the Democratic Party, with its actions, is indirectly serving Prime Minister Edi Rama, by excluding democrats who mobilize thousands of people and have historically contributed to the party.

-In fact, in today's event, they landed from the Durrës branch at the blue headquarters in Tirana, to demand a confrontation with Sali Berisha himself. It did not happen as expected. For everything that is happening with a series of dismissals that are being made, let's say, the leadership of the Democratic Party, especially in the districts. So far it has been said that they are your supporters and in quotes the reason has been understood. But it seems that it has gone beyond this logic. What happened today with those from Durrës, for example, who are known as your supporters?
Ervin Salianji : Yes, they are, let's say, part of this movement. How are we all together? I can't say that they are my supporters, they are part of this movement. The expulsion happened in one day, it is even banal as a thing, in a day when we were in a meeting, let's say in a working lunch with a large part of the leaders of the Durrës branch, as a message, which makes this movement of the leadership of the Democratic Party even more banal. Yes. They are officials appointed by Sali Berisha, as someone would say, the leader of the re-establishment and the man who organized the speeches for Mr. Berisha in 2021, today the chairman of the group of advisors, until this moment. Why did they expect them to think differently to expel them, whether they were there or not? The elections are eight months away. The other branch secretary. Today the most voted candidate of the Durrës branch went. The two excluded people and the party leaders of the neighborhoods of Durrës to show that they are democrats who have worked for the Democratic Party. Not to ask for alms, oh Basha, so that you don't exclude us from the party because it is a drama of life, but to show that the Democratic Party is a sacrifice, the work of thousands of democrats and to show the public opinion that you see, there are no facts here, but here there is an exclusion due to fear of the competition. He released a video, he also released the minutes that he had taken a position in the name of the group of advisors, against. So there are no facts here, this is simply to show, we are saying, the untruthfulness of the entire narrative that the leadership of the Democratic Party has today, because of the fear they have of the competition. And there were more than 100 people there today. Why didn't they confront each other? They say look, here is the evidence, you three. For this reason you are not in opposition, but you are playing a game. But in fact the leadership of the Democratic Party is playing the game to serve Rama. Even excluding the Democrats who mobilize thousands of people there. All of them are with their own jobs, they are with their own businesses, they have contributed to the Democratic Party, they have not taken from the Democratic Party. So this, this was an element that I believe will continue in any case, it will happen to others as well.

Ervin Salianji: He will decide, he will demand an account. What will he tell you? What will he tell you? Because he makes an accusation in the media and something will remain. But how will he tell them in front of him? How, what is the accusation, how have we helped the Socialist Party? Because he was there, he was the most voted candidate of the Durrës branch.
