The recount of votes for Tirana and Fier begins next week; Celibashi provides

The vote recount process for Tirana and Durrës will begin next week. This was announced by the Chief State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi, according to whom 610,301 votes from both districts will be counted, and the process will last up to 20 days.

The process will take place at the "Farie Hoti" Sports Palace and will be carried out by CEC staff, and not by political entities.

"I am providing some technical information. This process will be carried out by CEC staff, in contrast to this process developed after the end of voting and the release of the result, which as a process is carried out by counters and commissioners appointed by political parties. In this case, the process will be carried out by CEC staff. Political parties have no commitment in this process. As you may have noticed, KAS has come to this decision-making at the request of two members of this body, after the claims of electoral subjects and candidates for deputies have been assessed, based on the documentation provided to them by the CEC and the video footage.

"I say this to highlight the fact that the system of administration, supervision of the counting process and tabulation of the results has functioned properly, because based on that data, the candidates have been given the opportunity to make claims. It remains to be seen how valid these claims are," said Celibashi.

The head of the commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, provided details on how many people were engaged in this process.

"It requires logistical preparations. In record time, we have managed to have the infrastructure and human capacity ready to start this process on Monday or Tuesday of next week. The recount will be carried out at the 'Fahrie Hoti' palace, as it cannot be held at the Olympic Park due to objective circumstances. For Tirana, the recount process has engaged 208 counting groups or 104 tables, for Fier 46 tables or 92 counting groups. There are almost 150 tables. We have about 6 times fewer tables, we will need 6 times more time to count and evaluate the votes and to tabulate the results," said Celibashi.

He said that the recount process of over 610 thousand votes in Tirana and Fier will be carried out without requesting additional funds from the state budget.

"We have saved significantly from the contract with the postal service provider for voting from abroad for the diaspora," Celibashi declared, adding that the CEC will not request additional funds for this phase of the electoral process.

To guarantee the completion of the recount within the deadlines, Celibashi announced that the entire CEC administration will be working without interruption, including the months of July and August, while staff annual leaves have been canceled.
