German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke today at the European Community Summit in Tirana about the war in Ukraine.
He said that Europe must continue to provide strong support to Ukraine, politically, financially and militarily. Merz also said that it is very important for all parties to cooperate for a safer Europe.
The German Chancellor said that it is now clear that democracies are at risk and governments must show that they are strong enough to resolve crises like immigration and provide security.
"We have shown our gratitude by honoring them. We must make every effort to have the Americans on our side. We face the issue of immigration and Starmer mentioned it. We face threats from immigration and we are trying to solve it. But everything we are doing is in accordance with the law. I mean, we are spending a lot of money, but in procurement, spending that is extremely complicated is not enough. So we are ready to show that we have better procurement, efficiency and this is simply in our favor. We all know our systems, our democracies are at risk. If we are showing that we have the ability to solve problems, the world problems such as immigration will show that our governments are strong to solve this... I have asked my government to be present at the European level to show that Germany is committed and we are ready to find a new approach to our European engagement. We can only be successful together," he said, among other things.
