Mark Nelka, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, invited to "Balkan Talks" on Euronews Albania, said that his country has followed a long path full of obstacles to joining the European Union.
He said that Albania will now have to follow such a path. According to him, this path will require very important decisions to be taken in a short time, but if this is achieved, the reward will be extraordinary.
"There were 20 or 30 points. The road to membership in the European Union is long and difficult. We had to take, just as you have to take now, dozens of decisions that are in the long-term interest of the country. There is nothing wrong with that, but they are decisions that have to be taken relatively quickly and there is a high social cost.
"The whole process is quite difficult and there are probably no shortcuts. Membership is accepted on the basis of merit, so you have to be prepared for a long and bumpy road, but the reward is extraordinary," said the former Polish prime minister.
