The Complaints and Sanctions Commission rejected a request from the Socialist Party to count as valid votes for candidates during the recount process even cases where the "x" or "+" sign was placed outside the square on the ballot paper, but next to it.
"We stand by the opinion of objective evaluation regarding the candidates," said Ledio Braho, a member of KAS.
He added that the elements requested by the Socialist Party are considered abnormal at this point in the process.
"The first request had to do with the fact that it asked the KAS to change the standard for evaluating votes for the preferential list of candidates when the mark is placed outside the candidate's square, and the second element was unclear whether this different evaluation should change the standard followed so far or meant that even those 300 boxes that have been opened so far should be recounted and once again from the beginning if this standard changed.
"For us, both elements are considered abnormal in this process because we cannot change the standard in the process. The second is that these 300 boxes that we have opened so far cannot be re-evaluated once again regarding these votes," said Braho.
But what does this mean?
According to the KAS decision, when the cross or plus placed in the column of a subject is not placed within the square of the candidate's name, the vote is considered valid only for the electoral subject, i.e. the party or coalition to which it belongs.
"We have maintained this position. We have not considered the vote invalid, but only for the electoral subject," said Braho, who added to reporters that if the SP or other parties are dissatisfied, they can appeal it to the Electoral College.
Given that he and fellow KAS member Elvis Çefa were the two who requested the opening of the ballot boxes, Braho said he has "no regrets" and believes that this process "will shed light on the elections in any case."
We recall that the pink headquarters addressed a letter to KAS today, claiming that in this way the will of the voters is clearly reflected.
"Since the evaluation of ballots with the above marking as invalid affects the number of votes of candidates on the preferential list of the electoral subject Socialist Party, resulting in their change in the summary table, as has resulted to us up to this stage, we ask you to respect the normative regulatory framework and the practice implemented so far during the process of counting and evaluating votes," the SP's request read.
Meanwhile, we remind you that the recount of votes for the Tirana District continues at the "Fahrie Hoti" Sports Palace.
According to data from the CEC, 288 polling stations have been counted so far. The Democratic Party has the highest number of discarded votes, with 148. The Socialist Party is next with 131 votes.
There is also a flow of votes for the Initiative Albania Becomes with 18 votes, the Social Democratic Party with 11 votes and the Opportunity Party with seven votes. Meanwhile, the Euro-Atlantic Coalition has added 15 votes. /tvklan.al
