The Joint Movement, led by Arlind Qori, has reacted through a statement, which states that our country cannot turn into a "trash bin of Europe".
The reaction of "Moving Together"
Albania, a country with natural wealth and great potential for sustainable development, is again facing the threat of becoming a garbage can for Europe, for the interests of a small handful of people with economic power.
Under the guise of "development", the government of Edi Rama is trying to restore the law on the import of waste, an act that is dangerous not only for the environment, but also for the health of citizens and the sovereignty of our country.
The statistics are shocking: 5,000 Albanians die every year due to air pollution, 3,000 of them in Tirana alone. This is a clear indicator of the environmental and health crisis that has gripped our country. Waste imported from Europe, which may also include hazardous waste, will further aggravate the situation.
This is not an isolated initiative. For years, Albania has been used by the mafia to launder dirty money through the construction of luxury towers in Tirana and resorts on the coast.
These constructions are not only monuments of corruption, but also strategic points for strengthening the influence of the mafia in the country. With the latest bill, the mafia intends to deepen its control over the Albanian economy, turning our country into a collection point for Europe's dangerous waste.
This proposal comes at a time when the Rama government is involved in one of the biggest corruption scandals, that of the incinerators. The incinerator mafia, which has already gotten its hands on public funds through dubious contracts and money laundering, now aims to expand its influence through the import of waste.
This is a blatant attack on the health and well-being of citizens, an irresponsible act that clearly shows that this government is incapable of managing its own waste, let alone managing Europe's waste.
The latest scandal involving the smuggling of 800 tons of hazardous waste from Albania to Thailand shows that our ports, which have become key points for the trafficking of hard drugs, are also trying to be used for the smuggling of toxic waste.
In this dirty game of wealth and power, Albania is being reduced to a place where Europe dumps its waste, while a small handful of powerful people enjoy privileges. This is the vision of satrap Edi Rama for our country: a poor and downtrodden Albania, where oligarchs and mafia control economic and social life.
The TOGETHER movement will fight without compromise against this destructive vision. Our country cannot become a garbage can for Europe. We need a responsible and fair government, at the service of the people.
