Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has called for a concrete legal initiative to recognize social security for parents who care for children with autism spectrum and Down syndrome.
Through a reaction on social media, Tabaku announced that over the past few days he has held several meetings in the Parliament, but also outside it, with associations, center directors and parents of children with these diagnoses.
According to her, these meetings have highlighted the difficult reality faced by families, especially mothers who bear the majority of responsibility for the daily care of children.
The MP stressed that many of these parents are full-time caregivers for their children and are often forced to sacrifice their careers and personal opportunities. However, according to her, the current system does not recognize this commitment as a contribution in terms of social security.
Tabaku stated that the time has come for the Albanian Parliament to take a concrete step to recognize this sacrifice and to guarantee social security for foster parents of children with autism spectrum and Down syndrome.
In conclusion, Tabaku underlined that this issue must be addressed seriously in the public and institutional debate, demanding concrete steps from institutions to support families who face this responsibility every day.
"In these days, I have held several meetings in the Assembly, but also outside it, with associations, center directors and parents of children with the autism spectrum and Down syndrome.
These meetings reminded me once again of the extraordinary strength of mothers who care for their children every day, often sacrificing their careers, time and personal opportunities.
Many of them are full-time caregivers. But our system still does not recognize this sacrifice.
"The time has come for the Albanian Parliament to take a concrete step: recognizing social security for foster parents of children with autism and Down syndrome.
Caring for these children is a daily commitment and a great responsibility for the family. But supporting them should also be the responsibility of society and the state.
This is a debate that we must open seriously and a step that we must take without delay," writes Tabaku.
