The Economic Adviser in DP, Dorian Teliti, has spoken about the taxation of free professions. He has accused the government of trying to eliminate the middle class by taxing free professions.
In a statement from the blue headquarters, Teliti called on the Constitutional Court to accept the opposition's demands for the repeal of this law, which risks bankrupting businesses and depopulating the country.
"It is a well-known fact that since 2014, Albania has the highest level of taxes in the Western Balkan region.
It is also a fact that these taxes have been among the main reasons for the bankruptcy of tens of thousands of businesses, the departure of many foreign entrepreneurs, and also one of the main obstacles for the absorption of foreign direct investments.
Instead of taking a step back from these wrong policies and declaring war on organized crime, clientelism and 100% corruption, worthy of Guinness records, which are eroding the economy and killing competition, Edi Rama and the majority decided on a taxation of new to freelancers.
Rama violated, not for the first time, the promise to Albanians of zero taxation for every small business until 2029.
The salty bills of several million for this tax to 29 thousand professionals have arrived at their doors.
According to a survey of the economic magazine "Monitor", the situation is alarming.
96% of respondents say that this new taxation will have negative effects on their activity as independent entrepreneurs.
38% of respondents say that they will increase the prices of their services, which will be an additional burden to the Albanian consumer.
26% of the respondents state that they will bear the financial costs of this new fiscal burden by reducing profits, in other words less money for these freelancers for professional growth, investments in the business, and in the worst case even reductions in the number of employees.
17.5% of the respondents say that they are seriously considering closing the activity, while 5.4% are packing their bags to leave Albania.
Dear citizens. This decision of the government of Edi Rama has its political interests in the background and is the elimination of the middle class.
The Democratic Party calls on the Constitutional Court to accept the demands of the opposition and interest groups for the abolition of this taxation, which risks bankrupting businesses and adding Albanians to the long list of depopulation of the country", said Teliti.
