"All roads lead to Rome", Italian media comment on Rama's
Rama and Meloni

Edi Rama did it again. Just like last May, during Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's visit to Tirana, the Albanian prime minister arrived in Rome for the plenary session of the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine and knelt before his Italian counterpart.

"Libero Quotidiano" writes that Rama knelt dramatically, with his hands clasped, in front of photographers and television cameras ready to capture his official greeting with the Italian Prime Minister in the role of host. They then hugged before exchanging a few heartfelt words.

"The relationship between the two leaders was born years ago and was strengthened by the Rome-Tirana agreements on immigration. A protocol that has angered the opposition (and even some lawyers).

"This is also because the insult is double: Rama is a socialist and an ally of the Italian Democratic Party in the European Parliament. In short, we are on the verge of human and political betrayal," the Italian newspaper writes.

While "Secolo Italia" writes that the Albanian Prime Minister had greeted Meloni in the same way during their meeting at Sustainability Week in Abu Dhabi on January 15 (even giving her a scarf for her birthday), at which point Meloni jokingly reprimanded him: "You have to stop this story."

A suggestion that Rama did not take into account as on May 16 he did it again, welcoming the Italian Prime Minister in Tirana at the European Political Community summit in the same way.

"My friend Giorgia Meloni reminded us that all roads lead to Rome," the Albanian Prime Minister began his speech today, praising and thanking Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani for his reception and organization.

“Dear Antonio, everything you organized here in Rome was a wonderful experience,” he said, addressing the head of the Farnesina, before jokingly saying: “This is a safe place today. Right now, there is no safer place than Italy, with all the different security protocols.”

Regarding the topic of Ukraine, Rama stressed that Albania has “mobilized a lot of resources and, even though we have not been able to make many changes on the front line, we have been and will be by the side of Italy and our EU partners in this effort and whenever Ukraine needs us.

"Peace must always be at the forefront of our thoughts and hopes. We must not allow anyone outside the democratic borders of Europe to lecture us," Rama said.
