The former vice-chair of the "Albania Becomes" party, Etleva Merko, revealed for the first time details regarding her resignation from the position she held in this party.
Speaking exclusively to "NOW", she confirmed in the studio that she has resigned from her political functions in the "Albania Becomes" Movement, but affirmed that she will continue her activism.
Merko also clarified the controversies on portals that claimed that her mother was seeking a mandate as an MP.
" Yes, it is true news, I have resigned as vice president of the 'Albania Behet' party. As for my departure from the political position, this came in accordance with the party statute, because normally when someone has a political position like me who was vice president of the party, they should have the dignity to resign from their position after their defeat. I want to be one of the few messages in Albanian politics, where we see that even after defeat, the same figures remain in the same leadership positions. I do not want to be such an example and I think that the time has come for this policy to change. I will not hold a political position now, but I will be an activist, as I have always been, even when I did not have the different political statuses, being an opposition voice ," said Merko.
Etleva Merko also clarified the rumored part on the portals, that her mother wanted to take the mandate as an MP after running in the May 11 elections, rejecting these claims and saying that her mother had resigned, as they had agreed in principle.
" I have to explain how this resignation came about. I was on vacation with my family in Saranda and I saw a news on a portal that said: 'The Vice President of the Albania Movement Behet resigns, while her mother, listed on the closed list of the Tirana district, will take the mandate of deputy'. It was strange, so I have to explain that my mother resigned, just as we had agreed that the closed list would serve as an opportunity for the open list, where all relatives are already resigning after the elections. The same thing happened with my mother, who resigned after the elections, depositing it with the CEC. The message was clear from the start of the lists, that the parents would serve with a message against the old politics and that the time has come for a new politics. And they mainly stuck to the part of the open list, as important and as a symbol of democracy, where the people choose their representatives in parliament ", said Merko in "Euronews Albania".
