We have a sense of patriotism. That is what has hindered us. Patriotism gives you the word and continues, but one loses logic and reason...
Former Albanian President Alfred Moisiu has shaken up Albanian politics. Looking carefully from the outside, Moisiu says that Albania is suffering because of politics.
Invited to a show, he said that we have 113 years of statehood and we have not yet become a state. He also slapped the MPs.
" We loved and love democracy. Our people have always loved it, but how events have unfolded is another matter. Unfortunately, those who should not have been in power have come to power. We have 113 years of statehood and we still cannot say that we have become a state," he said on "A2 CNN".
But where did we go wrong? "We have a sense of flag-waving. This is what has hindered us. Flag-waving gives you the floor and continues, but a person loses logic and reason. This is exactly what has hindered us. We have been in democracy for 35 years and we still don't understand. We still don't know how to hold elections, we want them electronically, not the way we want them. Those who demand them, don't want them. How can this be explained? The devil knows. This is a permanent crisis. In the first elections that were held, I was Minister of Defense and I followed them very closely. At that time, telecommunications had fallen and the army's liaison was functioning and I did it. So we followed this work well. Elections were held at polling stations in the mountains and plains and were reported. Today, we don't understand. Do these things happen or are they made up? ", he said.
The former president also touched on the storm that Rama has started, but also on the changes that occur in the administration when governments change. According to him, there must be a limit, as professionals are leaving.
" The disappointment is very great. I have worked for the state for a long time, but instead of improving, in terms of the work of the state, we have weakened it. We do not believe in administration, when the government changes we do it from scratch, but this way we will never have to do administration, but it is sacred. There must be an agreement between the parties: Up to this point you have the right to change, do not touch anything below.
When I was elected president, I called the general secretaries and told them that I don't touch anyone, whoever wants to leave, let them leave. Why did they need to be changed? They were doing their job. I'm glad that this tradition in the Presidency has been preserved, from the guard, to the driver.
Then we come to what is happening to us now. The prime minister gets up and does a great job, he changes all the directors. There is a reason why he does not react in vain. After all, they are the ones who know him. When these problems occur, sometimes you have to take such exaggerated measures in my opinion , "Moisiu said on "Off the Record".
While discussing corruption in the country, he stated that he lives in a house built 53 years ago even though he was president of Albania for 4 years, while emphasizing that not only high-ranking figures, but also MPs have several houses.
" Everything is needed, desire, efforts, even conflict, but it is very important like corruption... I have said that I have had that house for 53 years, but it is not a bad house, but it is not contemporary. But it is no secret that not only high-ranking figures, but also every MP has a house by the sea, in the mountains and on the hills, some declared and some undeclared, and what did they do with it? We know the salaries ," he said.
The former president said that what is most worrying is the fact that officials often deny the allegations, calling them slander: " I'm trying to find a way to fix it. The worst thing is that they say they're fine and it's slander. They even make you look stupid ."
Moisiu called on the new judiciary to be more careful and work on concrete documents: " If you bring out the facts, they can't say that these things don't exist. Let's take the 'Partizani' group of buildings, it was land purchased by the Italians. What the documents are like, I don't know. Nothing is done without documents. Even if they're not here, they're in Italy. The archives should go and get them, shut them up ."
