Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken again about food safety, saying that Albania is facing a 5-year transitional phase to be in line with European Union standards.
Rama stated that participating in a transitional phase for food security means that during this phase, you will not be able to export, but you are allowed to consume yourself.
But, according to him, after the transitional phase, producers may not even be able to consume what they produce that does not meet EU safety standards.
"So, someone in Dibër or Gjirokastër cannot say that I do not submit to the rules of the Albanian market and I will slaughter cattle on the sidewalk of my house ," he said.
Rama said that farmers must be clear that if they are not ready, they have no other choice but to close the shutters.
"Another serious challenge that other countries have overcome, we are trying to achieve a 5-year transitional phase, which is the maximum we can get, is food security.
You know what it means to take a transitional phase for food safety, it means that during this phase, you are not able to export, but you are allowed to consume yourself and then, after the transitional phase, you are not able to consume anything yourself that you produce that does not meet EU safety standards. Why? Because you are no longer a separate market.
You are part of a market of 450 million people and you will be subject to that market. So someone in Dibër or Gjirokastër cannot say that I do not submit to the rules of the Albanian market and I will slaughter cattle on the sidewalk of my house.
Why? Because this is not allowed. And the same is the relationship of the entire EU with Albania in this case, or with the country that is coming out of the transitional phase that is not allowed to do anything here that is not in compliance with the safety rules that the market has.
This means that we must be aware of this and work to ensure that our farmers, our rural businesses, are clear that if they are not ready, they have no other option but to close down.
Of course, saying it like this seems impossible, but if you look at the reality of the village today, the fact that there are enterprises that export and have no dispute about the quality of their production means that this is possible.
"But if today this is a fact for elite agricultural enterprises, tomorrow it will be for every person who produces tomatoes and sells them in the village market ," he said.

Si zor do te arrihen standartet, qe kerkohen per sigurine ushqimore, kjo qeveri nuk po ben zap qe i ka para syve, kompanite e perpunimit te qumshtit, te cilat po i shesin shqiptarve vaje palme si kos lope, jo me ate neper fshatra te humbura te vendit, qe shesin mish ne rruge me pjese, te fryre me gjilpera , prandaj gjerat duheshin filluar pak e nga pak me kohe, nderkohe qe ne fakt ne jemi per cdo gje dhe ne cdo gje "bir selmani nenes ke te qaj me pare".
