Prime Minister Edi Rama is today in Hungary where he met his counterpart Viktor Orban.
In a joint press statement, the Hungarian Prime Minister stated that next week the negotiations for the integration of Albania in the EU will be opened.
Still without the confirmation of the opening of the negotiations, where the decision is expected to be taken in Brussels, Orban congratulated Albania, stressing that he is happy that this will happen as Hungary holds the presidency of the European Union.
"Albania has been waiting since 2019. I also spoke in Strasbourg. The best cure for everyone is for the EU to host the Balkan countries. Albania has done wonderful work, based on merit. Albania should be part of the EU and should be now. Unfortunately, we are seeing political obstacles. Next week in Luskemburg, we will have the intergovernmental conference between Albania and the EU. We are very proud that this comes when Hungary holds the EU presidency. Hungary, in the spirit of a responsible policy of good neighborliness, has helped the EU. You don't have to wait for membership to take advantage of this. We also discussed the cooperation between the two parties" , said Orban.
