The Kosovo Government held a solemn session on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the declaration of Independence.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized the contribution of former representatives of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who are being tried in the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Kurti stated that the Declaration of Independence cannot be commemorated without mentioning the role of those who, according to him, contributed to freedom and state building.
"We cannot help but remember that the representatives who participated in the declaration of the Independence of the Republic are today being unjustly held in The Hague. The contribution of each of them to freedom and independence is precious and history will be the one that will make the right judgment," Kurti said.
In his speech, the Prime Minister also said that, although the state and institutions are new, the foundations of national identity are ancient.
"True, the state, independence and Constitution are new, but our language, culture and people are ancient. Our state is built and stands on the values of freedom and democracy, equality and justice, prosperity and inclusion. Every citizen, regardless of language, ethnicity, religion or origin, is equal before the law," he declared.
Kurti added that this anniversary finds its place at the beginning of a new governing mandate, with challenges and commitments ahead, calling for joint commitment to strengthening the state.
"Teachers and students, doctors and workers, women and men, girls and boys, we all must give our maximum. Let's make them proud by working and strengthening the state. We as the government cabinet are only an instrument in achieving these goals," said the prime minister.
