Those arrested in Banjska, Zveçan, who are suspected of being in contact with the attackers of the Kosovo Police, have Serbian citizenship, confirms the prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo, Naim Abazi.

"We don't have other citizens", he says for Radio Free Europe.

He adds that some of the arrested, in addition to Serbian citizenship, also have Kosovo documents, but he does not specify how many of them have such.

According to him, all of them are still in the interview process.

On September 24, a member of the Kosovo Police was killed when armed persons, around 30, attacked police units in the village of Banjskë - an area inhabited by a majority of Serbs in the north of the country.

In the ensuing clashes between the armed group and law enforcement, three attackers were killed and six people suspected of being linked to them were arrested, authorities confirmed. They did not say whether the other gunmen fled.

The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo said that the arrestees have already been detained for 48 hours and that they are suspected of a number of crimes, including "attack against the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo", "preparation of terrorist acts" and "unlicensed possession of weapons ".

Meanwhile, it is learned that late last night 200 American marines landed in the east of Kosovo with sophisticated equipment, A2 CNN reports.

While the head of Italian diplomacy, Antonio Tajani, warned of the reinforcement of the presence of NATO troops on the Kosovo-Serbia border, to prevent further clashes, amid concerns about the renewal of violence in the region.

He made this warning on Twitter, in which he said that he spoke with the President of Serbia Vučić and the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti, calling on them to encourage dialogue between the parties.

"In agreement with (Italian Defense Minister) Guido Crosetto, we work to strengthen the presence of KFOR on the border between Serbia and Kosovo and prevent further clashes," he said in his reaction.

The warning came after Sunday's clashes in the village of Banjské in northern Kosovo, where a group of masked people in military uniforms attacked the Kosovo police, killing one officer and injuring another.

The group then forced their way into the Orthodox monastery in the village of Banjska, continuing to shoot at the police. The fight ended when most of the attackers escaped. Three of the armed attackers were killed, while six people were arrested.
