Removal of the Serbian dinar, the EU confirms the meeting: Kurti and Vucic in

The European Union (EU) confirmed on Wednesday that it had summoned Kosovo and Serbia to a meeting on February 27 in Brussels to discuss the dinar issue, after the Central Bank of Kosovo earlier this month banned its use for payments by cash, EU spokesman Peter Stano said.

"High Representative Joseph Borrell had meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Munich last week, where this issue was discussed. As a result of this meeting, the special envoy Miroslav Lajçak invited the two parties to come to Brussels on February 27", said Stano.

On Wednesday, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, said that he rejected an invitation from Brussels to discuss the issue of banning the Serbian dinar in Kosovo.

"This is not a meeting where the chief negotiator should go because the dinar issue is not part of the dialogue. I go when the Basic Agreement is discussed", Bislimi said.

Bislimi said that Lajçak, by sending this invitation, had violated the "principles he set himself", since according to him, "it is the first time that he has set a meeting without prior agreement with the parties and has tried to define the agenda despite the principles he established in 2021, that no topic is placed on the agenda without the agreement of the parties".

Stano criticized Bislim's statement about Lajcak as "unacceptable" and that the party of the EU special envoy did not specify who from the two parties should participate in the meeting invited by him for February 27.

"Usually we do not comment on exchanges with our partners. However, the invitation through the letter from the special envoy Lajçak did not specify who should represent Kosovo and who should represent Serbia, this was left to the parties to decide," said Stano.

He said that the EU is making efforts to find a solution to the problem created by "the uncoordinated decision of one side, which was not communicated in advance to the population it affects"./REL
