Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam held meetings in Kosovo, Presevo and are also expected to meet Albanian leaders in North Macedonia.
Two American congressmen, Republican Keith Self and Democrat Suhas Subramanyam, are visiting Kosovo and the region, where they have praised the role of Albanians and expressed support for their rights and Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration.
During their stay in Kosovo, the congressmen were received by the highest leaders of the institutions, while they held meetings with Acting President Albulena Haxhiu, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Deputy Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca.
Their visit comes a few weeks after Keith Self, along with Congressmen Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, proposed a bipartisan resolution in the US supporting Kosovo's membership in NATO.
The two congressmen first visited the Presevo Valley, where they met with Albanian political representatives and discussed the rights of Albanians in southern Serbia.
"We are visiting both countries to understand how minorities are treated and what their rights are," declared Keith Self during his stay in Presevo.
According to media in North Macedonia, the American congressmen are also expected to hold meetings with representatives of the Albanian Student Movement and Albanian opposition leaders, including Ali Ahmeti, Arben Taravari and Zijadin Sela.
The focus of the discussions is expected to be the rights of Albanians, the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, and concerns about the use of the Albanian language.
Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam are considered among the most supportive voices of Albanian issues in the US Congress, and have long lobbied for strengthening Kosovo's role in international organizations and protecting the rights of Albanians in the region.
