Kosovo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca, has asked the European Union to publicly react to the statement of Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunovic, who stated that, if she were in the place of former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, she would carry out ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.
In a letter to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, Konjufca demands that Brussels not only condemn this statement, but also address it within the framework of the political dialogue with Serbia and its accession process to the European Union.
In his letter, the head of Kosovo's diplomacy presents three concrete demands to the EU. First, he calls for a clear, strong and public condemnation of Minister Paunovic's statement and the revisionist rhetoric that, according to him, it represents.
Secondly, it demands that the Serbian authorities be officially reminded that such statements are unacceptable and do not comply with European values and the criteria of the membership process.
Thirdly, he calls for this issue to be raised regularly in the political dialogue between the EU and Serbia, as well as in the accession negotiation process.
According to Konjufca, the Serbian minister's statement cannot be considered a random blunder.
"Such a statement by a serving minister cannot be treated as a gaffe. The entire interview was filled with deeply revisionist and hostile content, reflecting a broader pattern of statements that continue to undermine the dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, facilitated by the EU, as well as erode trust in this process," Konjufca wrote in his letter.
The reaction of the Kosovo Foreign Minister comes after the Serbian minister's statement caused strong reactions in Pristina, while the Kosovo authorities demand that the European Union maintain a clear stance on the language that, according to them, incites hatred and contradicts the principles on which the European integration process is based.
